George Daniel Mayfield passed away suddenly on April 25, 2003. He was 61 years old and married to Glenda L Langham for 42 years. He had a daughter: Teri Seagraves and husband Chandler, son George Daniel Mayfield Jr. and wife Deanna. He had 4 grandchildren: Courtney, John, Kyle O'connor, and Hanna Mayfield which took all his attention. Since his death a little granddaughter was born - she is named after him - her name is Georgie Seagraves. George is missed so by his family and friends. June 1960 he was a Seaman Recruit in the US Navy. He left the Navy and joined the Alabama National Guard for many years then transferred to the US Army Reserve where he retired after 33 years in the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. His last assignment was as Assistant Commandant of the US Army Reserve Command and General Staff College, 3385th US Army Reserve School. George received a degree from South Alabama in 1973. He held a Juries Doctorate from the Birmingham School of Law. He was a Senior Pharmaceutical Sales Representative with GlaxoSmithKline for the last 18 years of his life. George was buried with full military honors at Barrancas National Cemetery with his beloved son in law Lt Cmdr Kieron O'connor - who was a Navy Blue Angel who lost his life when his jet crashed in Georgia. He never got over Kieron's death. Trying to select something to put on his headstone was very hard, but when I saw "To Know Him Was To Love Him" this fit him. He brought so much happiness too so many. He was a unique person and can never be replaced. I thank the Lord for the 42 years that I was honored to be his wife.
