Thank you so
much for the web page, Milton. I was saddened to see the names of
those who are deceased, especially Pat Bishop, my childhood playmate
and Sherry Allen, my special friend from church. It makes one want
to live each day to the fullest!
I have a major conflict and will not be able to attend the reunion.
I am directing our city-wide children's chorus for the
back-to-school convocation and was already committed to that when I
got my invitation to the reunion. The 35th was the only reunion I
have attended.
I graduated from Baylor University in 1964 and have lived in Waco,
Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Abilene, TX.
I have been a public school music teacher for 31 years and am going
to teach at least one more. I teach elementary children of the Dyess
Air Force Base personnel and love my job of 12 classes of third,
fourth and fifth graders each day. What a joy it is to find a talent
in a child, especially one that struggles academically. For the past
24 years I have directed what we call an I Love America Day where
our whole school honors America and the children's military parents
with a patriotic program and a parade in front of our school. The
Veterans of Foreign Wars were kind enough to enter my name as a
candidate for Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and then as the
National Elementary Teacher of the Year. My husband and I were
treated to a trip to Washington D.C., where I presented a workshop
on how to instill patriotism in children. God has truly blessed my
life through music. I also directed children's choirs at church for
25 years and have always been a member of an adult church choir.
My husband was a biology professor for 25 years, having attended
Baylor and Texas A&M, a rancher and is currently the Taylor County
Judge. My friends tease me with the title of Judgette! We have been
married for 41 years. My Vigor boyfriend, Richard, whom I consider a
dear friend, introduced me to my husband while we were students at
Baylor University. Thanks, Richard! I would love to hear from him
and Clay Swanzy. They were both so dear to my mother, who is now
deceased.
I have a daughter who is a teacher, a son-in-law and three little
granddaughters, ages 9, 6, and 3. I have a son who is a lawyer in
Houston, a daughter-in-law and one grandson who is 15 months old.
Grandchildren are a precious gift!
My sister, who died last year, was in the first graduating class at
Vigor. She was so glad I made her go to her 50th reunion. She said
as she sat next to a four star general, "See, some good did come out
of Alabama Village!" I am thankful for my humble beginnings and for
my high school days at Vigor. I am just sick about not getting to
see everyone. Have a great reunion!
